Dear Miss Amazing participants,
My name is Becca Worden. I am 21 years old and grew up in Sioux Falls, SD. I recently graduated from Augustana University with a Special Education, Elementary Education, and Spanish degree. I am currently a kindergarten and first grade Special Education teacher in a self-contained classroom in Sioux Falls, SD. When I am not at school or working on projects for SD Miss Amazing, I can probably be found watching a sporting event. I am an avid football fan, but also enjoy reading a good book when I get the chance.
My passion for individuals with disabilities began with my own family. I have an aunt with Down syndrome who is 20 years older than me. Growing up, I have many fond memories of the different activities we did together and I still enjoy going to visit her in Minnesota every opportunity I get. In high school, this passion was magnified when I served as a student mentor in a Special Education classroom. It was here that I discovered that the students were making a greater impact on my life than I am sure I could ever make on their lives. After a short period of time, I was no longer volunteering but eagerly awaiting every moment I could spend with the friends I had created through the experience.
This is my first year as the South Dakota Miss Amazing state director. I was connected with the Miss Amazing organization while attending school at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD. For the past two years, I have served as the assistant director and the backstage manager for our pageant.
One of my favorite aspects of SD Miss Amazing is the friendships and relationships that are built as a result of our efforts. By the end of our event, many of our participants have cemented friendships with our buddies and many of our other volunteers. I absolutely love the smiles, the laughter, and the sheer joy that fills the building during our event. It's so fun to see the impact!
Looking forward to meeting you at our amazing event!
